Mixed media on panel. 12" x 12"
A vintage portrait of Virginia Woolf, shown in profile with her head turned down, sits at the lower right. Her hair is partly covered by a pale, textured wash, and a faded red stamp marks the paper below her.
Torn newspaper columns of Japanese text sit behind and beside her, some of them painted over so the writing is only partly visible. Loose black brushwork curls across the light blue ground, between a deep navy band on the left and a rust-brown band on the right.
A face and a few lines.
